All units are ready to intervene upon request of the Authorities in case of marine pollution from hydrocarbons and other substances. Through the Group it is part of, the Company is a member of Castalia Ecolmar consortium, that was set up in 1991 by Castalia S.p.A. and 30 shipping companies scattered all over Italy. Its aim is to prevent and to contain marine pollution along the Italian coasts, acting as an emergency organisation under international rules. This aim is achieved through continuous patrolling of territorial waters and ad hoc removal of pollutants. This activity is now carried out on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment by using different types of units, ranging from supply vessels in the open sea to de-polluting vessels near the coast. The units stationed in the Gulf of Trieste perform a daily prevention service but are ready to intervene at very short notice in the event of an emergency. The Company’s highly qualified staff takes part in regular trainings testing and enhancing their skills.
