The tug Spica, moored at the port of Trieste, at the disposal of the Ministry of Environment (Consorizio Castalia S.C.P.A.) sailed following the provisions of Castalia and the italian Guard Coast for an pollution control operation following an oil spill reported in the vicinity of the offshore buoy yellow.
At 12:45 the Spica crew spotted the stain of heavy naphtha and soon after you have activated all the Castalia procedures for cleaning up spills.
The Guard Coast, with the presence of patrol boats CP 2084 and CP 8221, served constant assistance during surgery.
Boats were involved in the first phase of the operation until the late afternoon when the the sea was no longer considered polluted. More complex were the subsequent recovery activities on board of the polluting material (more or less 400 kg) that lasted until the next day.
The operation has prevented the pollution of the Marine Reserve of Miramare.
